CF,

What you said is very true. On the speeches, the trick is to do no harm. Obama knew that he could not outdo Clinton or even perhaps Biden, so he simply got through it and did no harm. This is something that we're not sure that Romney accomplished with his speech. By leaving out any mention of the troops and the war in Afghanistan, Romney gave the democrats an opening and, just perhaps, a wedge issue to help defeat him in the end. This is part of the coiling process that you mentioned. Romney seems constantly on the defensive more and more as this election goes on. Te CNN team noted that the democrat convention seemed to be about two states in particular: Michigan and Ohio. CNN believes that if Obama carries these two states, Romney's path to the presidency is very, very difficult indeed. One thing that worries me however, is the Israel card. If Israel attacks before the election, it could change the whole equation entirely.

Regards,

Joe

Hi clo,

Obama's speech was better in many ways than Romney's. But neither of them said much about what they plan to do.

Obama is a throttler. He coils around the opponent and then squeezes the life out of them. This is what is happening to Romney.
