My issues with Rice stem from apparent arrogance.
Yes, the Stan Prof is bright and all, but my understanding in the transfer of power briefing the advice was (every few seconds) "worry about al-q and bin L") and the response was repeatedly "nonesense, tell me about Hussein, we have an invasion we need to justify. We have this infection of democratic model based on SE Asia 50 years ago we are going to give a go).
I'm struck by a human who would not listen to something history has shown to be a matter of more than just casual importance.
To me it is defining, perhaps I am being partisan. I mean Churchill certainly had his moments 10, 20 or 30 years before his run.
I applaud intellect and education, my gut tells me that in Ms Rice's case it lead to systematic blindness.
For those that measure things the 500 # gorilla is always systematics, that which matters excluded before one even pulls out the ruler.
In the absence of a solid defending counterpoint I find Ms Rice and her considerable intellect wanting.
