I have often argued the following:

Let us accept as premises that all of the folks variavly dependent on SSN, Medicare, Food stamps, school lunches, all sort of Pell grants and so on ... allow us to accept the Republican mantra, .... that they are lazy, corrupt, socialist dirt bags.

Allow us to assume that as absolute truth.

Is it not still a more sensible business decision to placate them at some level than it is to have that 299.99m US dirtbags come after your stuff?

Good point.

Perhaps it has something to do with the right's lack of principle. They want to do what they want to do without admitting the negative externalities of doing so. Low taxes, but increased expenditure. Call the difference the supply side theory and all will be okay!!

It's like whenever there's another mass shooting, the right to bear arms folks refuse to take it on the chin as the price of the unabridged liberty they require of society. If you want easy access to guns, you also get to be responsible for Columbine, Virginia Tech and Aurora. If you want it, you own the consequences.

So to the current campaign.

"The GOP campaign is based on five main themes, three negative and two positive.

Negative:

The claim that Obama denigrated businessmen, saying that they didn’t build their own firms — which isn’t true.

The claim that Obama has gutted Medicare to pay for the expansion of health insurance — which isn’t true.

The claim that Obama has eliminated the work requirement for welfare — which isn’t true.

Positive:

The claim that Ryan has a plan to balance the budget — which isn’t true.

The claim that Romney has a plan for economic recovery — which isn’t true. (The Economist: “The Romney Programme for Economic Recovery, Growth and Jobs” is like “Fifty Shades of Grey” without the sex).

It seems to me that there’s a pattern here, but I can’t quite figure it out."

Hmmm. Can't imagine what he is thinking.
