The stand against gay marriage is not completely rooted in fear or dislike of gay people.
It is also a threat to the ability of Christianity to control women. Allowing women to marry women increases the number of women who are not subject to control by men through the institution of marriage. As for men marrying men, that's just collateral damage.
The real goal is social control and a a big part of that is the subjugation of women by forcing them to only have heterosexual marriage as an option - just like the anti-contraception and anti-abortion planks.
