Hi D&O,
I understand the folks who want no censorship. But unless you do something, you end up with Yahoo.
Obviously, we all know that censorship can also be too heavy-handed. But how much and how little to do is a tricky judgement.
So the answer is, you do best if you have some kind of light touch management in place. And the difficulty is in trying to achieve that.
I have had to exclude people on this board. Very few, though. At the same time, I am not trying to be inclusive. I really don't want to encourage people with nothing interesting to say to participate. These large warring communities of partisan intransigents are a bore.
Thing is, it's people rather than posts which are the solution and the problem. Are they willing to accept the local culture or are they not? Are they building up their own ideas or are they just spouting someone else's partisan rhetoric?
I think we are doing okay. but snackman's board, ironically, only does well when it gives folks the opportunity to moan about distracting posters. Actually removing the distracting posters makes the venue dull.
