That may be, but I've found downhill hikes to be far easier PROVIDED that they're on a nice downhill path. Long, slow strides... with hardly any need for a break. The only thing to be careful of is falling.

But...

My brother once made the mistake of going with me up Half Dome in new boots. Coming down, he literally couldn't continue. His boots were too small and with every step, his toes were being crushed. (He hadn't even noticed that the shoes were tight on the way up.) After a while, he had to stop.

We were most of the way down, so I changed shoes with him. At that point, I REALLY paid the price - because I'm half a size larger than him! It was the longest two or three miles I've ever walked.
