Newsweek is owned by the Washington Post. Both the Post and Newsweek are only surviving because of their online university, Kaplan U. Kaplan is paying for the losing publishing side of the business.
80% of Kaplan's students receive finacial aid to pay their tuition. This is very lucrative. Kaplan used to be able to keep a student in school for six terms without the student passing anything and only logging into class once a term. Naughty old Barack ended all that.
Now the government won't lend money for "F's", period. This greatly cut down on the profitablility of Kaplan and all the others. A lot of folks in the WP news organization might actually have to find jobs. That sucks and it's all Obama's fault for reforming student loans (real reforms).
