Realist - Everybody in America is soft, and hates conflict. The cure for this, both in politics and social life, is the same -- hardihood. Give them raw truth.

The last time I went to Yosemite, seven years or so ago, I found while doing the Sentinel Dome hike that I was getting pains in my hip sockets. I'm sure it was related to dehydration, because it was a pretty easy hike, but done on a long day. My hips haven't bothered me since, so it's not a serious hip problem.

I do have trouble staying hydrated... and it's not as simple as just drinking tons of water. (No one wants to be stopping every 30 minutes to pee.) So I'm a little concerned about next summer's planned hike up Half Dome. It's a very hard hike... uphill, every step, for about ten hours. I'll break it up into two days (with camping in "Little Yosemite Valley"), but the "very hard hike" then becomes a "very hard backpacking trip" - which, in some ways, is worse.

But I'm gonna do it. My son is the right age for such a trip, and it could be the last time I see Yosemite.

Anyone else interested?? We could arrange to meet up there.
