Was chatting with my sister. She said a cortizone shot can reduce inflammation and presumably swelling so in that case that could take away the pain. (Every case is different so that need not apply.)

Note that a mattress is not necessarily a mattress where the back is concerned. Two things:

(1) I learned how to get in and out of bed. Especially out. Do not use back muscles. Roll over to side. Put feet down first. Then push up with arms to get out of bed. If you google this, you can find video.

(2) A pillow placed under my knees and upper thigh relaxes lower back. I always sleep with that for my lower back. Do a google.

Does this make sense?

Micro,

Glad to hear that you're improving. Just remember that the shots may not have actually "fixed" anything - that they're more just blocking the pain - so you be extra careful not to over-do it!

You might also try out an air mattress. I know that there are some good ones out there.

I have a really cheap one that I can travel with - like when I go to camp - things like that - and if the good ones are anything at all like my cheap single size - they're worth a good hard look. I love sleeping on mine when I'm away from home.

If I could get my better half convinced that they won't spring a leak like the old ones you used to be able to get for camping, - you know - more of a glorified pool mattress - then I'd replace my TempurPedic with one in a heartbeat.

My back is not as serious as yours yet - but it's definitely telling me that I over-abused it back when I entered the "man's" world of the workforce. And it definitely likes the air mattress.

Just food for thought.

Sun :-)
