I just learned that the former Chairman of the British company I worked for for 14 years (at their Michigan subsidiary back in the 60's and 70's) was one of the people who was given the honor (he was a Silver medalist at the 1948 Olympic Games) to carry the Olympic torch on a portion of it's travels around the UK prior the openings of the Games in London two weeks ago:

I had met Mr. Peake several times back in the 70's, and on at least two occasions, I had the pleasure of having dinner with him. He was a very congenial and modest man (after all, until I read these articles, I never knew that he was a former Olympic medalist).
