You don't REALLY believe that the difference matters, do you?
A while back, one of the Super PACs (I don't remember which one) put out an ad that was offensive. The press pounced on it and it became clear that the ad would have a net negative effect on the candidate. The candidate stated that he disagreed with the ad, and "hoped" that the Super PAC -- which he had no control over -- would yank it. The Super PAC yanked it.
Funny how that works.
While candidates don't have TOTAL or OFFICIAL control over what the Super PACs do, it's naive to think the candidate doesn't still wield enormous influence. The PACs are there to get their candidate elected, after all. (Except for the Steven Colbert Super PAC, I mean. Its mission is slightly off kilter from the norm.)
