Welcome home, for a bit... Good to see how Mt St Helens has recovered, now also a very nice new visitor Center... It was still steaming a couple years ago...

Interstate 5 is handy, but, so boring when you have to do the whole run at one swoop...

We made it home today from our 'working' vacation (well 8 days was work, 4 days of travel and only one actual day to ourselves which could be called a 'vacation').

We spent 8 days working on my mother-in-law's house trying to get it ready to put on the market. We concentrated on the inside of the house fixing dozens of minor issues which would make it hard to pass any sort of inspection that a bank would require before they approved a loan. This included rewiring the electric hot-water heater, to remounting a couple of the kitchen cabinets, fixing some door lock, replacing a broken window and a couple of window screen, etc. Now there's still a lot of work outside (new siding), but that will have to be done by a licensed contractor (my wife will have to return later in the fall to work on that issue. We did mange to sell my mother-in-law's 11 year old car so at least one 'asset' has been converted to cash. Now if we can just sell the house (there's no mortgage)...

As for our 'one day' of vacation, we drove up to where you can see Mount St. Helens and then spent the night in Portland where we ate dinner at the original restaurant of the McCormick & Schmicks group (our oldest son is the brand executive for the M&S group).

The day we went to Mount St. Helens was great, not that hot and very nice weather. However, on our drive home (Saturday and Sunday) is was extremely hot, hitting 113º between Redding and Red Bluff and 104º coming over the Grapevine into the L.A. basin (it was 99º when got to our house in Irvine).

Anyway, I'm home for a day and then I'm off to Connecticut on Tuesday to visit some clients. I'll be home on Friday.
