I don't get this angle. Are Republicans the only party that is smart enough to get registered? Aren't they also preventing some Repulicans from voting?

Yes. They are. But it really is quite simple. Take the Texas voter ID requirement law as an example. Texas voting records make it clear that college students tend to vote for Democrats. Certainly not all do, but a sizable majority do. Voting records also indicate that people who hold concealed handgun licenses tend to vote Republican. Again, not all vote Republican, but a sizable majority do. So . . . guess which kind of government photo ID Texas proposes will be acceptable at polling places and which won't. The law is designed to suppress student voting and not suppress voting by concealed handgun holders. The net effect is a slight shift in the vote to Republicans. Estimates of the number of voters in Texas who do not currently hold an acceptable government issued photo ID that would allow them to vote indicate that 24% of the black population in the state lacks acceptable ID while only 8% of the white population does. Again, guess which population tends to vote Democratic and which votes Republican.

All of the voter suppression laws are designed to work primarily against voting groups that have traditionally favored Democratic candidates.

Let's face it. Republicans don't want democracy. They want their ultra-wealthy elite and corporate oligarchs to rule this country and they don't care how they have to cheat to do that. They're just a bunch of lying, hypocritical pigs and anyone who isn't a billionaire and still supports them is a fool.
