the us team also does very well in swimming. this time the swimmers have been incredible. all the same, but for its dominance in the pool which has resulted in 17 gold medals, the us would be having a bleak olympics, well behind britain and northern ireland and about equal with south korea. that is on an absolute basis. much, much worse on a per capita measure.
in the absence of aussie dominance of the per capita chart, gb is currently leading amongst the 60 largest countries.
