I wish that marriage could roll back to its original state, which was as a religious celebration and status. The government got its nose into it first with inheritance (to allow a wife to inherit her husband's property), and later with taxation.
The ease and frequency of divorce, and the acceptance of divorce as a solution to marital problems, is one of the biggest problems in our society. I think THAT is a far greater threat to our society than gay marriage, or unmarried-yet-committed relationships, will ever be.

What is the point of rules that are not enforced?
