AS I did absolutely nothing today except sit on my leather high backed well cushioned chair in my office this morning, using my brain to figure things out for our work load, I finally waded through that and decided to look at the spare computer in the spare office.
It already has the GTX 460 in it and it is hooked up.
I have formatted the hard drive and installed a fresh operating system on it and put SP 3 for XP pro on.
I installed Office 2003 and java.
I downloaded Firefox version 4 and use it.
I also upgraded Internet Explorer to version 7 as I don't really care for 8 at all.
I installed the drivers for the motherboard and installed the nVidia graphics driver 280.26 whql.
Okay.
Here is what I notice.
My display screen tends to get blurry and streaky in patches sometimes.
That is weird.
I tried Client 7 and the video card was 2d clocking and then it quit several times with errors.
I removed client 7 entirely, and installed GPU3 6.41
I know that very well.
Fired it up and at first it took off because it went up over 75 degrees and stayed there for a short time until it errored out and wouldn't work right after that.
The power supply only has two 12 volt rails with a total of 18 amps on each rail.
I think the power supply is insufficient for that card. Not enough juice.
I will try my 3 rail power supply in it tomorrow morning and see if it makes a difference AND if these streaks go away.
They weren;t there when the GTS 550 Ti was in that machine but I know it doesn't require the same power as the 460.
I found a truly GREAT power supply at microcenter.

Check out the SPECS on this power supply from ANTEC!!!!
FOUR 12 Volt rails, each with 40 AMPS output for a total of 160 AMPS!!!!!
The Price for this animal?
$76.65
THAT IS A STEAL and a half!!!!
I may have to just acquire this for no other reason than I WANT IT BAD!!!
Can you imagine, ARVEE, what you could hook up to this thing?????
You could run three video cards!!!!!!!!! Easily.
Anyway, I am thinking power supply may be the problem for the continual problems with the video card GPU folding I was having with both the 550 Ti and the 460.
The 550 Ti is doing great here at home with a much stronger power supply.
The 460 was doing great here but just running too hot and heating this room up too much for mrs micro.....
She was going to turn off my computer at night!!!!
The horror!!!!!
Anyway, your thoughts on my detective work appreciated.
Mark, Thank you!!!!!! Please email me your phone number again just to be sure.
I may well call you sometime.
Tomorrow I go see Doctor. I hope we may have a good visit and he may have some alternatives.
I really am at the point of preferring to have surgery if it can relieve these problems and let me be without all the pain. Now would be the time as my medical is 100 percent satisfied and it costs me nothing in co-pays or deductibles. Long ago satisfied with my soul mate's surgical needs from 8 weeks ago.
Just wanted your opinions on this thing to see if I am missing something.
The best,
micro....
