Joe - Those times were sure different than today... Communications just wasn't there, so if you didn't see someone, or a relative of theirs that maybe got occasional letters, you never knew where they were.. Even out in Kwajalein, all we had for communications was a Bell Labs run Ham Radio shack, KX6DB, so I'd write, set up a time, and an old HS buddy would do a linkup, or if I had to sometimes a phone patch from SoCal up to my wife.. Maybe once a week if we could.. But military and Labs links were verboten, troposcatter systems that were dicey at best... Today, personal email, daily news, ships have websites, links, much bettah!

Weco,

A friend of ours who served a tour in Vietnam told the story about a neighborhood bar that he frequented before he went to Vietnam. When he returnewd from his tour and went back into the bar and sat down, one of the regulars turned to him and said: "Where have you been Ron, haven't seen you for a while!"

Regards,

Joe
