The trouble is, the unit's appearance is bound to be easy to change. And, of course, comparable hardware only gets smaller as time passes.
Years ago, it was discovered that a batch of computer motherboards imported from China had additional circuitry embedded between the wafers of the boards. The motherboards were built to monitor and transmit everything the computers were doing.
If China was doing that years ago, you can bet that our nation is doing the same thing today... but undetectably.
And, of course, there's always the RFID technology I posted about. The size of dust. We'll be inhaling the chips one day, if we haven't already done so.
