It can unfold quickly, in which case most people would be utterly devastated or perhaps even dead. Or it can unfold over decades - in which case those of us who are middle-aged will not live long enough to experience a recovery.
I'm relatively well prepared and concerned only that my family and friends live to see better days. I, therefore, prefer that the former occur. It sounds as if you're the same way. We just want to get it over with. But most, who aren't properly positioned for a rapid collapse, would certainly prefer the latter.
