The thing about Romney as a successful businessman is to ask - what do you mean by success?

Success for himself? Yes.

Success for Bain? Yes.

Success for the companies he took over? Some yes, some no.

What was Bain's main contribution? Supplying debt finance.

What are Republicans particularly good at creating? Deficits, aka supply side economics.

So Romney is the perfect Republican.

They are kinda wedged in by the legal implications of his previous statements. So now time must be made to run backwards in order to suit their presentation of the facts. I suppose that is what they came up with in the crisis meeting. How to respond without causing a legal issue?

It seems like at most he had light involvement at Bain. But he has made the claim of not being in any way involved in order to evade responsibility for Bain's decisions in this period.

clo is right that Romney was paid a salary until 2002. Apparently he was also listed as Chairman, CEO, outright owner and everything else.

Obama's lot have finally pinned down his etch-a-sketch trick in a legal setting. Awkward for him to be bound to his own record.

Next come more ads about Bain's company closures, with Romney as CEO. And now his denials of responsibility. Ouch. The etch-a-sketch candidate is getting defined.
