Hi alea,

I think we both agreed that if MicroSoft Win 8 RT and the Win 8 phone were just being released in Nov/12 demanding the TPM functionality that it would take another year for sufficient devices to be in the market place for Wave's products to be of use for the enterprise. I find it fascinating and yet tedious as it develops.

With NIST issuing the "security paper for mobiles" recently outlining what agencies can do for existing mobiles with out the "core root of trust" such as TPM's, well it pretty much shows it will be a year or two to get that capability into the field for mass adoption. It appears to me that it's MicroSoft Mobiles then Google Android phones and everyone is waiting for Apple to adopt.

I read an interesting article a few days back that stated that the MNO's won't let MicroSoft's phones on their networks because of Skype and MicroSoft owns Skype. Skype is a big threat to the MNO's revenue models (voice and instant messaging) and now that MicroSoft will introduce 1.2 billion PC's with Skype plus the tablets plus the phones through Nokia/Samsung/HTC/Huawei they will boycot the phones.

Hope the guy who wrote the article is wrong, we don't need more delays for the TCG concept to get started.

Seeing how Intel and Arm handle "secure Applications" in their processors is another fascination. We know the Arm design is the TEE per Globalplatform Specs but Intel is mute on this point and looks to me they will use virtulization to containerize or secure the application during execution. But who really knows they could do a "AMD" and introduce TrustZone and join the party.

Even though the mobiles and the cloud for that matter are still in development I was hanging my hopes on the DOD getting the Existing TPM's in their PC's operational this Fall. The NIST paper on PC BIOS Protection recommendations being delayed from April to the Fall may delay that "hope" as well.

I may have to go back to my "If we just live long enough motto" Very Happy Very Happy

"So my take on it is who cares who's Application is being used, if the MNO or Bank or OEM or Service provider controls the Application and it's executed in the TEE VS's another Location (the secure Elements)who cares. It make's the entire security eco sysytem under one roof, the CPU processor (ARM and TrustZone with the TEE provided by G&D and Trusted Logic)with the Global Platform Specifications to tie it all together."

Also, I think your timeline is slipping towards mine. A few years is one of those - let's hope someday - kind of Wave projections.

My interest is in how they break down the control of the incumbents.

I think that will occur in stages. First stage will be enterprise again. And once again, it will require adoptions by major players to get the market moving.

That's to say, I think we won't be seeing trusted consumer mobile phones for many moons.

Except from MS, which seems to be making an interoperability play across all devices with Win 8. Even so, likely an enterprise emphasis.
