I once heard a story about Greenland. The U.S. military apparently had a privy there that extended off a fjord, sending deposits a considerable distance down.
In some military outposts, the worst job you can get is kitchen patrol (peeling potatoes.) In others, it's cleaning the bathrooms. In Greenland, some poor sap gets stuck every few months with going out with an axe and chopping down the frozen outhouse mound! This is particularly disturbing when you consider that it's been going on for decades...
