Waveduke, I to am an Independent. Consider myself as a fiscal conservative and social moderate. You introduce risk into the equation and I suggest reducing/eliminating risk to it's citizens is a primary objective of the central government. As examples we have the military, EPA, FAA, FDIC, OSHA, SEC, Center of Disease Control et al. Such regulatory agencies protect us until weakened via funding or administrative restraint. There are many things the Gov. can do better and more efficiently than dispersing control. Although I not convinced that federal income tax is the best way to fund each these "risk" protective agencies it currently is the primary method. The poor can't pay (although I think everyone should at least pay $25.00 a year). Today our country is a consumer driven economy. Overburden the middle class and consumer spending will decrease. Squeeze more from the high earners won't have that impact on the economy. Most everyone agrees the tax code needs to be chucked and redone eliminating or sun setting loopholes and silly deductions. I for one have never understood why a family w/ nine (9) kids gets a deduction for every one, if anything maybe they should pay more as they use more services. Anyway absolutely nothing good can happen until the "teaparty" loses it's strangle hold on the House. Norwood's pledge is so counter productive, and any Congressional Rep that's taken it should be voted out as too stupid to hold office.

So all thoughtful people will eventually agree with you? And those who disagree will either change their minds or be ignorant forever? I think that you're missing something. You fail to see that you are not immune from having your interpretation of data or decisions on what data to look at effected by your worldview. You are the first intelligent person I have ever heard make the claim to holding no pre conceived notions.
