I agree with having a good balance sheet, if possible. But we're starting from a difficult place. Depressions happen to economies with imbalances.

You can't cut your way out of a stagnant economy. The way to restore an economy like this is to drop some fuel in the tank.

By the way, as I generally think of you as a thoughtful person, I'm putting my bet on the fact you will move away from the right, even if you clearly lean that way now. Those premises you offer are not those of a centrist. They are foundational Republican views of how society works.

I don't hate you for it. I recognise the reasoning and I know how I shook it off.

In the end, I think you will find the statistics tell a different tale to the one you are telling. But you are not ready to soak them up. Yet.

First the doubts have to happen.

For me it went like this. Goddam. It turns out this stuff just isn't how it works. Wealth doesn't trickle. The poor mostly aren't lazy. Luck matters. Gross inequality is as ugly as it seems. Greed is exactly what it is, not some virtue in disguise. Republicans don't run better economies. etc.

What's left after that? Nothing.
