Seems to me this is a theme that has developed around the world over the last thirty years or so.
The folks that make the most money don't necessarily create value. They work out how to scoop value out of businesses for their own benefit rather than that of other stake-holders.
Essentially, the trick is to take advantage of the inequality of knowledge to assure yourself the better end of the bargain.
The more naive and uninformed the other side is, the better. Let them eat hope.
