Personally, as I have said before, I think there is a fundamental cultural difference in buying things you don't want, but that you need. EU is simply more comfortable spending money on prevention, security, privacy and compliance. In the US its more of a "over my dead body" sentiment that one pushes against, or a "that'll be the day" dismissal of change as it pertains to prevention or compliance. The US is more change averse, the US likes to believe they are just the opposite. It takes big things for the US to change ... you know, airliners and buildings and things.

Hi dig,

That is the impression that I get too, though obviously the inputs we get are incomplete.

But I'd expect some spillage of effort into visible evidence in the public domain.

Is the legal environment in the US not conducive, perhaps?

Re restricted posting - I think a lot of folks have the idea that the DD board is largely for optimism. ALEA board exists for hypotheses, constructive criticism and the airing of disagreements.
