Hi dig,

I've been to one tennis match live. It was a Wimbledon final. It rained and rained. They finished the next day when I was at work.

Maybe I should have gone some other day!

I was only commenting on the fact that tennis tournaments have begun more predictable than I ever remember them. Four men are a step up from everyone else. It's become a rare thing to have anyone else in the semi-finals at the major tournaments. To the point at which the rest of the tournament seems superfluous.

1. Who will win between Nadal (2) and Murray (4)?
2. Who will win between Djoko (1) and Federer (3)?
3. Who will win the final?

Same three questions almost every time.

I guess you have a more inclusive idea. It's fun to watch the others. But in terms of winning, it's simple.

Cactus, I don't know if you have sat in at Wimbledon e.g., but while the last rounds are great, the back court stuff is to die for.

Is your argument that television should just wait?

I watched (and this is not mens) for example Lindsay D just decapitate a challenger. Pre-match the challenger seem to have it all, fit, presumably quick, and then just BLAM ... MS Davenport never even offered the courtesy of a glance at the eye-contact level to the challenger. 2 and out, maybe we'll meat when you grow up. It was the kinda Greek Colosseum offing (except she was allowed to live).

Bad television, but remarkable live.

then you've got former greats that for whatever reason end up on courts 11,12,13,14,15, .... where there is just one row of chairs.

The ball is still moving at 100 and change, and they do still seem to care.

So, in the end, one must have the early rounds ... television, nah, it makes bad TV, but personally, watching these folks live do that stuff, and the newbies and the oldies sort it out on the outside courts, its worth spending a night in the streets as they make you do in Wimbledon (well, they make some do).
