Good morning Cactus Flower,

"They were trying to create something akin to a United States of Europe. Turns out not to be easy."

The huge difference, the USA has one president, congress & judicial branch.

Too many chefs/chiefs in the European kitchen to make an economic recipe that suits all.

Hi clo,

I don't think it was obvious to them that it wouldn't work. They thought, for instance, that avoiding the FX costs of transactions made sense.

They were trying to create something akin to a United States of Europe. Turns out not to be easy.
