when you have companies in the industry minimize or avoid the use of.... or choose other methodologies than IDCC's "inventions" in particular standards based work items.....because of the licensing and business history....it lessens the opportunities. A LOT of lost revenue...and significant forward negative ramifications. 10 years ago....a significant 3G license COULD have been signed with Nokia....at rates higher than what we're seeing today.....that would have/could have brought the other biggies on board....and at the same time provided greater potential for our contributions to be used and accepted in standards. Instead we made enemies 9 years ago....in settling with Ericsson....well...'nuff said 6 years ago....the company COULD have signed a 3G license with Nokia when settling 2G........that would have/could have brought the other biggies on board....and at the same time provided greater potential for our contributions to be used and accepted in standards. again an enemy. there are more.... probably 60 or so little companies that should be easy pickings....and I don't see any real reason why they haven't yet signed....what's wrong? not 1, not 2...but 3 arbitrations right now? Harry's army may have won a few battles....but the surrounding countries have created walls.... and are always looking for IDCC intruders crossing over.....even if they are just innocent engineers or BD people... they know a licensing guy is somewhere behind and they thus staff the walls with their own legal people. Now IDCC is forced to lob litigations over the wall....but only with a small fraction of this big patent portfolio .....and we can be darn sure that Samsung, RIM (both expiring this year), Moto, Ericsson, and others.....will be watching the first few months of the current ITC 3G action.....which...IMO...will be telltale to how the 4G licensing will happen....and at the same time I'm hoping that we got at least a few more 4G patents actually intersecting and being really...I mean really.....essential. These same companies looked under our dress during the SA....and didn't like something. I don't trust any of these companies to "play fair" with us...thus my recent conversion to....if you're going to be perceived as a troll.....be a damn good one...or align yourself with a good one ...then ship all your legal people down to Delaware maybe... all JMO... best of luck |
