I agree with you. No principle, no idea, justifies this. If it was an order, then okay, you don't carry it out. Easier to say, but how can you do that and still think your life is worth a bean.
In some ways I feel personal shame, as the fact is, I haven't looked at the material. The printed and spoken word have been more than enough to make me sick. God dammit when people do that shit. Its upside down when any idea big or small enables a human to do these things.
