Hi mags,

well, for ted to say it was partisan is in itself worse than a partisan statement: it identifies the rejection of a correlation between wealth and job creation as an opinion rather than as a fact. this is an untruth. There is no correlation. simply compare job growth and tax rates on the top 1%: no correlation. job growth and declines correlate with the economic cycle. the economic cycle does not correlate with tax rates on the 1%.

so it is simply an assertion of mathematical fact that there's no correlation between job growth and low tax rates on the wealthy.

in that case, calling the 1% the job creators is a false statement. to observe this fact is not a partisan statement. it is a truthful one. doesn't matter that an american political party repeats the propaganda as if it is true. some things are simply false.

is it partisan to assert the earth is round because there's a flat earth society?

as i say, it is a strange thing that has happened in america.

Hi Alea,

I read the official TED response to the controversy and while I can agree that some of Hanauer's arguments were weak (the squirrel analogy for one) nevertheless, the premise is so spot on and really NEEDS to be taken up by the populace. The assertion that the talk is partisan falls flat for me. Perhaps, I'm too partisan to see the partisanship! ;-)

I agree with you, "flattery of the 1% results in campaign contributions". This is a real problem with the American election process and the Supreme Court has made it worse.

The problem with super wealth that is not equitably taxed, is that there is no other mechanism to cause a trickle down. Hanauer is right in that super wealthy people can't spend enough to drive the economy; a thriving middle class does that.
