clo,
re: "I find it odd if Trayvon was beating on George that George's only defense was to shoot him? Why wouldn't he hit him?"
I wasn't there, but I *believe* it was because George was on his back, and Trayvon Martin was sitting on him, pounding his head into the grass. (George had maneuvered his body off the sidewalk by then.)
Try to imagine punching someone from that position. It can't be done.
The one question I have is how George was able to get his gun out of the holster. Tough to do when someone is sitting on you. Maybe he bucked Trayvon off? Maybe Trayvon moved in order to get to the gun himself? I don't know. I wasn't there.
Best to wait to hear the story from George and the witnesses.
What's obviously true at this point, though, is that Trayvon hadn't been attacked by George, and Trayvon had already beaten the hell out of George. The fight may not have ended prior to the gunshot. We don't know. George claims Trayvon told him that he was going to die... and then might have been reaching for the gun.
