It is against the law to carry a gun when on a neighborhood watch assignment! Only the police are allowed to do that sort of thing! There is a concealed carry law in Florida but it is specifically stated in Florida law that one cannot carry or use a weapon when engaged in the type of activity that George Zimmerman was engaged in. One of the basic hallmarks in police work is the presence of non conceiled weapons as a deterent to the commission of crimes and the establishment of police authority to use their weapons. George Zimmerman committed a crime when he first went after Trayvon Martin while carrying a weapon. When police officers discharge their weapons it is standard operating proceedure that there is a hearing after the use of the weapon and that they are usually placed on leave until it is determined that they used their weapon properly, particularly if it includes the taking of a life. None of this was done in the case of George Zimmerman. It took three days for the Martin family to even locate their sons body in a morgue after the killing occured. Police officers are very reluctant to draw or use their weapons and, in addition to that, they carry mace or other devices to subdue an assailant if they are attacked. Also, George Zimmerman was not trained in police work which is one of the reaons why he was not allowed to carry a weapon when engaged in neighborhood watch activities. Also, when police are called to an event such as what Zimmerman was engaged in they almost always come in pairs and try to stay in front of their squads so that their activities will be filmed if there is a problem. Traditional neighborhood watch activities do not include trailing a suspected person, they simply entail calling the police and reporting what they see. Most people engaged in neighborhood watch activities never leave their homes but simply keep a watch out their windows.
