You might think about heading south and hitting the southwest first. It is going to be 103 in Phoenix today. Come July the humidity rolls in. 110 and 70 degree dew point is not fun without air conditioning.
If you do come through Arizona later in the summer I would suggest I-40. The higher elevation moderates the temperature.
