The Claim: 911 certainly wasn't thought of, planned, trained for, funded, etc. on Bush's watch
Wrong!
Six of the hijackers were in the country during Clinton's term. There were 19 altogether. That would mean that thirteen entered the country while George Bush was in office. You get that "13" is more than "6", right?
The statement lives right up there with "We found WMD in Iraq."
Seriously: George Bush was inaugurated in January 2001. (I mention it because apparently Bushies have difficulty with dates.)
The first hijackers to arrive in the United States were Khalid al-Mihdhar and Nawaf al-Hazmi, who settled in the San Diego area in January 2000. They were followed by three hijacker-pilots, Mohamed Atta, Marwan al-Shehhi, and Ziad Jarrah early in the summer of 2000 to undertake flight training in south Florida. The fourth hijacker-pilot, Hani Hanjour, arrived in San Diego in December 2000. The rest of the "muscle hijackers" arrived in the spring and early summer of 2001.
Why didn't Clinton get him and nip this in the bud which would have avoided 911?
Why didn't the FBI, which is charged with such things? Oh, right, they had more important things to do, like a witch hunt orchestrated by the radical right. If one were to read a history book, one might even remember that the Clinton administration sent legislation to Congress to tighten airport security and airline security, but it was defeated by Republicans at the behest of the major airlines. They were happy with their minimum wage 'rent-a-cop' screeners, and so no changes were made during Bill Clinton's term
One might remember that the Clinton administration sent Congress legislation to track terrorist group funding, but that was defeated by Republicans at the behest of the big banks.
That would all change, of course, once Republicans got whupped upside the head and 3,000 Americans died on 9/11. That's apparently what it takes to get their attention. Tragic, truly.
