Hi wavy,

I think that's a sensible resolution of the science versus religion debate. Let the bible be various things but don't make it be what it ain't.

I don't think there is much of a debate about intelligent design. Intelligent design is by its nature non-science. It is magical intervention. You don't need to get into the timeline of geology or the extent of the red shift as stars accelerate through space and time in order to see that science does not seek to explain magic and magic has no need of science.

Two things: Was that a serious debate about the Giant footprint? Sounds like an odd version of the intelligent design debate. About the Bible: It was written by many different writers in many different literary styles. The sections written as historical narrative should be inturpreted as such, the sections written as poetry should be read as poetry ect... I don't think there are any sections written as a science textbook. I take the Bible literally under these guidelines the best I can.
