Ahh, Hobbit man, so you follow this somewhat.
There are some things for anybody that looks at this stuff that are some fun, the whole Neanderthal genome project (Noonan? and I cant remember the competing principle group and a subsequent reconciliation of data discrepancies by yet a third). Neanderthal DNA is old and broken, Neanderthal even if one wanted to will likely not walk again. The Mammoth?, expect it. The Woolly Mammoth will walk again. I just don't know what I think of that. The notion of Woolly Mammoths walking again is frankly weird, but that there would even be an outside chance that some folks could conjur Neanderthal, tell me that would not challenge everything from Genesis to the Dali Llama, and, for sure, revisit the question of just because we can, should we? We always do when we can, so perhaps that is the answer. In all of my self centered (Homo centered) rationalizations, it just seems a little rough to bring back the fuzzy behemoth, even if we can surround it with suitable habitat.
Evolution has always given one thing, at some point fixed alleles when the pressure is either off or was too great.
Going all Dolly on Manfred would be positively time-line jarring.
