The theme is less that novel, that we can assign it to the Bible is to say that people eat, and some fart, .... these are very loose associations to which much is being assigned.
Can I say (and I can) with as much evidence and certainty that Bilbo, did, indeed, have a crazy day with some giant types, and that it is substantiated by the appearance of a big footprint? I can and I do, which means, that, it leaves nobody more further along on any sort of consideration than the day they were born.
