Were there only a couple hundred thousand of us, and had we e.g. not conjured how to release a few hundred millions years of chemically stored solar power over the course of a mere hundred years or so, and had we not transcended some 70 thousands years ago into something so successful that there is now some 700-800 billion pounds of us walking around, and were it not that we have chosen to insert ourselves into every aspect of everything, then I would be more inclined towards the laissez faire opt-in opt-out approach of selective engagement and the contracts descendant from that. But as it is, I am more inclined to describe us as masters and stewards in every sense and at all times, at least, if we plan on sticking around that is. Cool

In the world of unregulated freedom, doesn't the market decide?

I'd have thought that only if you feed, you fix. Ownership develops obligation along with responsibility.

If you take away a cat's genetic purpose, you are removing something beyond its potential suffering. But you are returning nothing in the bargain.
