I think they're more scared of losing their base since that could have big effect on the House and Senate races. The minority vote has a biggest impact on the national, i.e. presidential, races than on the local ones where redistricting has already pretty well determined whose in what district, but if the base stays home, they're screwed as a national party.
I was surprised to learn that Muffin has millions of dollars worth of ads going up in all the swing states, but NONE of them are wooing Hispanics or Latinos.
