re: "80% of women don’t report rape or sexual assault, survey claims"
I'm glad you gave it some thought.
As you know, many of those who oppose abortion are willing to concede that exceptions exist. In my view, I think abortion is acceptable when doctors conclude that a pregancy jeopardizes a woman's life. I'm less inclined to make an exception for instances of rape. Killing the baby does not undo the crime, or lessen the psychological impact, or even punish the rapist. It just creates an additional victim.
But, if significant controls were put in place, I might compromise on this - and I suspect many other abortion opponents would too. One of the controls I'd find appropriate is that the rape would HAVE to be reported. Otherwise, the abortion privilege would be abused by women. I'm sure you can see why that is so.
When the pregnancy is NOT due to rape? Too bad - and I say that in all sincerity. A woman's convenience - even when it is seriously impacted - should not come before a baby's life.
Ultimately, clo, I think it comes down to this: An unborn baby's life is nearly as important as a woman's. One is tempted to argue that a baby's life is MORE important. Thanks to ever-improving technology, a baby has perhaps 100 years of life remaining to it; a woman, less than 60.
I see no reason for a baby's life to be casually snuffed, and far too often, that is exactly what's happening.
