re: "The Democrats' Duty: Bring the GOP Back from Crazy"

Cute. You guys don't actually believe that, do you?

Here's a dose of reality from someone who usually calls elections correctly.

GWB was enormously unpopular by 2005 or 6. That was when it became clear to me that there was no way Democrats could lose the Presidency in 2008.

Liberals responded by putting forth one of the most wet-dream, WILDLY socialist candidates they could possibly have selected. True to form, with just a little sleight of hand, moderate Americans were able to be tricked into thinking he was better than the Republican nominee. (And, hey, they might have even have been right. The Republicans put forth John McCain... who was every bit as bad as George W. Bush.)

But that is *not* true of Mitt Romney. Romney is a Centrist. Hey - just how far to the right do you honestly believe he could be? He was governor of MASSACHUSETTS, for crying out loud! If he'd been in Utah or Texas, he'd have been a Democrat. So this silliness about bringing the GOP "back from crazy" strikes an objective observer as more than a little disingenuous.

Consequently, we've got an extremist going against a centrist this November. Moreover, the extremist is an unpopular incumbent. So, what we're going to find is that EVERYONE to the right of center is going to vote for Romney, and a considerable number to the left will as well.

This, in an electoral college that has shifted in the Republicans favor - as result of the 2010 census numbers.

You and Obummer can raise a white flag on his reelection hopes. Barring a new war, major terrorist attack, death-in-the-family or other, similarly catastrophic event that rallies the public around the President right before the election, 2012 is going to be an easy win for the Republicans.

Feel free to rebut - if you can avoid acting like 2nd graders when you do so. (Those of you who actually ARE 2nd graders are excused from this stipulation.)

The Democrats' Duty: Bring the GOP Back from Crazy

By Charles P. Pierce

at 12:01AM

INTO THE WILDERNESS /// Both parties have spent time in exile, and both parties have deserved it. But this year, with the GOP nominating process having devolved into a heresy trial, there's a moral obligation to cast the Republicans out until they come to their senses.
