...according to an aquaintance of mine who worked for the railroad, they (the railroad) had a bunch of firemen (coal shovelers) on the payroll that they didn't need because the locomotives had just about all been changed over to diesel. Union forced em to keep the firemen on the payroll anyhow.
...the company said "ok" and rented a hall and filled it with metal folding chairs. All the firemen would come in at starting time and sit in one of the chairs. They got two breaks and a lunch hour and went home at quitting time. No reading, no headphones, no talking. Just sit there all day long doing nothing and getting paid for it. Didn't take long to run almost every one of em off.
Liberals are like a "Slinky". Totally useless, but somehow ya can't help but smile when you see one tumble down a flight of stairs!
