U.N. Security Council Agrees to Send Ceasefire Monitors to Syria

The United Nations Security Council on Saturday unanimously authorized the
deployment of ceasefire monitors to Syria.
Russia and China joined the other 13 council members and voted in favor of the
Western-Arab draft resolution. The first 30 unarmed military monitors are

The vote had been expected Friday but was held up by Russian objections to much

“substantive changes had been made to make it more balanced.”
