exactly. if you allow everything, you get yahoo.

the thing he's doing exactly right this time is he's plonked himself in the piece of the spectrum which allows constructive criticism all the way to optimism, and said that this is the conversation he will manage; and then he isn't partisan between the sides - even though he is himself an ironclad optimist. this is a difficult thing. but i think a much more sustainable one.

fair enough, in order to keep its considerable value he has to cut some things loose. I get that. Too much breadth and it sinks.
