re: 'It's called their "Going Out Of Business - Final Six Days" sale.'

We returned to the NH Sears on Thursday and bought a 60" Panasonic plasma TV for half off. It was $800. My wife wanted to wait, but 20 minutes later, almost all of the TVs were gone. Apparently I started something, because it was mid-day and only one TV (70") sold in the half hour before my purchase.

We returned again on Saturday at the open - when everything in the store was still discounted 75 to 90 percent, but then ANOTHER half off of that at the register. We loaded up on Craftsman tools, appliances, clothes and, well, on everything.

I've been to many going-out-of-business sales over the years, and by the last day, the stores always look like they were hit by a tornado. Oddly enough, that was NOT the case at this Sears store. It wasn't that crowded, and there was still a lot of good merchandise. They had stacks of dining room tables (in boxes) for $35 each, tons of lithium-powered tools (I bought several hammers and drivers) for $15 or so. Duracell 9V batteries were $0.50 per two-pack, and AAA batteries were similarly cheap. We use a lot of batteries.... Craftsman locks (including the nice U locks for bicycles) were similarly discounted.

clo would have been apoplectic.

When we travelled to NH last year, we arrived to find that our town had experienced "the Crime of the Century" the day before. Someone had robbed the bank. This time, we were shocked to find that there'd been a stabbing in the Sears parking lot on Friday. (We'd been there Thursday and Saturday, so don't look at me.) Evidently, someone took umbrage over another customer who pilfered a power cord at the register. It didn't sit well with him.

People are funny. The power cord probably sold for $2.00, but a 60 year old man stabbed a 42 year old in the back over it. Unbelievable. Crime and stupidity are indeed EVERYWHERE. Even New Hampshire.

The 42 year old is okay, by the way.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

It's called their "Going Out Of Business - Final Six Days" sale.

...a local store here has been having one of those for about two years now.
