Hi doma,

Then I think you are doing two things in your jar rather than one.

First you have a population that's doubling.

Second you have resources which are reducing.

Okay. I get it. Zero sum game.

I don't assume the sudden end of resources in the way that you do. People are fairly clever about developing new resources. Maybe we'll end up making skyscrapers out of fortified and reconstituted algae or some crazy thing like that. Maybe we'll figure how to use the deserts to plant crops. Maybe we'll genetically modify ourselves to live in the oceans. Maybe we'll convert ourselves to light forms and live in cyberspace.

Like we make plastics out of hydrocarbons or energy out of the sun's rays.

I have human innovation as a key variable which tends to expand the realm of opportunity for expansion. While other forces tend to limit it.

Reminds me of the conversation between Malthus and his peers.

Hi Alea......

Didn't miss the point... but how do resources fit into
that model.......unless we recycle 99% of everything we
dig up & throw away.

The point being if you assume 2 people seeded this planet
just 50000 years back & assume a 0.1% not 1% average
growth rate you still get a number to the power of 21...

Biblical style wipeouts seem a necessity....
