On my street, 7 houses up the block. There were plenty of police cars from several districts.
I was not home at the time, but passed the police cars mid morning. I don't know them.
Cops surround Mahopac home after distraught man fires pistol inside; no one injured

MAHOPAC — Police surrounded a Wayacross Road home this morning and evacuated several neighboring homes after a distraught man with a large cache of weapons fired several rounds inside his residence, Carmel Chief Michael Johnson said.
No one was injured in the standoff, which started around 8 a.m. and ended about 45 minutes later, Johnson said.
The 50-year-old man’s wife called police a little before 8 a.m. to report that her husband was emotionally distraught and had fired several rounds from a .45-caliber pistol inside the home after they argued.
The wife then fled the home with her children, leaving the husband alone. Members of the Putnam County Emergency Response Team surrounded the home and evacuated several nearby homes because the husband was known to have a large collection of firearms, police said.
The man then contacted his wife on the phone and told her to call police because he wanted to have a confrontation with them, Johnson said.
Carmel Officers Thomas Raffaele and Richard Rosario, who are trained negotiators, spoke with the man and convinced him to surrender, which he did without incident about 8:45 a.m.
He was taken to Putnam Hospital Center, where he is currently undergoing a psychiatric evaluation. Inside the home, police found an arsenal of loaded rifles and pistols that he had placed on his bed in apparent anticipation of shootout, police said.
Johnson declined to release his name at this time but said the investigation is continuing and that criminal charges are likely.
