Perhaps - in that both became 'issues' only because of the public gets most of its information from the Daily show.

Romney's 'Etch-a-sketch' comment is correct. He was making the point that the campaign starts anew after each party has nominated a candidate.

The 'Pink Slime' proponents are also correct. 'Pink slime' is a pejorative for a product better known in the industry as 'lean finely textured beef.' It is the gathered trimmings from other cuts, processed to reduce the fat (it's 95% lean), then exposed to ammonia gas to kill bacteria in case it was out longer than desired. Those who don't know any better claim that the ammonia gas is a hazard, I think. In reality (and even the FDA agrees), that's nonsense.

So, it's meat with a gross nickname. A public that doesn't know any better overreacted to articles by a press that SHOULD know better. I hope they're happy with the end result: Meat prices, particularly hamburger (which is where 'lean finely textured beef' is used), will now be higher. Hooray! It's another victory for the Left!
