Martin never walked towards Zimmerman: Listen at at about 0:58 on the recording. Sounds like Zimmerman said "Yeah, now he's coming towards me." Also at about 1:23 we hear "He's comin' to check me out."
Am I incorrect on what I'm hearing?
At 1:42, it sounds like a bell starts going off in the background - maybe this is where Zimmerman exited his vehicle to pursue on foot? He may well have been following in his vehicle up to that point - we have no way of knowing. One could infer that the actual pursuit started at this point.
And yes, Zimmerman was told "We don't need you to do that" when he told the dispatcher he was following Martin (at about 1:56). And I agree with you, Zimmerman should have stayed in his vehicle. After all, if he truly believed Martin to be armed, his vehicle would have been a hell of a lot safer than chasing after him.
What is the point of rules that are not enforced?
